Save the date: Theatre of Dreams Van 8 september t/m 23 oktober 2022 vindt in Breda de tiende editie plaats van het tweejaarlijkse BredaPhoto Festival, de grootste fototentoonstelling in de Benelux. Het thema van deze editie is Theatre of Dreams en gaat over hoop, verandering en een nieuwe wereld met vernieuwende ideeën. Verspreid door de stad Breda is zeven weken lang op bijzondere binnen- en buitenlocaties nieuw werk te zien van zo’n 50 internationale topfotografen en jonge talenten. From 8 September to 23 October 2022, the tenth edition of the biennial BredaPhoto Festival, the largest photography exhibition in the Benelux, will take place in Breda.The theme of this edition is Theatre of Dreams and is about hope, change and a new world with innovative ideas. Spread throughout the city of Breda, new work by some 50 top international photographers and young talents can be seen for seven weeks at special indoor and outdoor locations.

Meet the curators BredaPhoto heeft een nieuw curatorial team. De 10e editie van BredaPhoto Festival Theatre of Dreams zal worden samengesteld door Denise Camargo (Brazilië), Tanvi Mishra (India), Mohamed Somji (Verenige Arabische Emiraten), Reinout van den Bergh (Nederland) en Fleur van Muiswinkel (Nederland). Daarnaast maakt gast-curator Newsha Tavakolian in de Grote Kerk Breda de zeer persoonlijke tentoonstelling Space to Breathe. Dankzij dit team kan het publiek werk van vele (nog) onbekende fotografen uit de gehele wereld ontdekken. Lees meer. In the Grote Kerk (Great Church) in the centre of Breda, Iranian guest curator  Newsha Tavakolian creates the highly personal exhibitionSpace to Breathe. International Talent Program Afgelopen maand kwamen de studenten van het International Talent Program nog een laatste keer bij elkaar in de Duitse stad Bielefeld voor hun eindpresentatie. In twee dagen tijd toonden 45 studenten van 9 verschillende kunstacademies in Europa hun pitch aan de selectiecommissie. Deze commissie selecteert van elke academie één student voor een plek op BredaPhoto Festival 2022. De selectiedagen waren enorm inspirerend. Vele geweldige projecten kwamen in die twee dagen tijd voorbij en de keuze bleek lastig. Toch is het gelukt en binnenkort zullen we deze selectie bekend maken. Stay tuned!  Last month, the students of the International Talent Program met up again for the last time in the German city of Bielefeld for their final presentations. In two days, 45 students from 9 different European art academies pitched their presentations to the selection committee. This committee selects one student from each academy for a place in the BredaPhoto Festival 2022. The selection days were hugely inspiring. Many great projects were presented during the two days, and it was difficult to choose between them. Nevertheless, the committee were able to make a final selection and we will announce this shortly. Opening Cross Arts X Guernica de la Ecologia - Claudy Jongstra Met trots kondigt BredaPhoto de eerste tentoonstelling van CrossArts aan: Claudy Jongstra - Guernica de la Ecologia is van 12 mei t/m 26 juni te zien in de Grote Kerk in Breda. CrossArts is een nieuw kunstinitiatief in Breda dat is ontstaan uit een samenwerking tussen Electron, Brack, Grote Kerk Breda, Tranzforma en BredaPhoto. Met de steun van de Gemeente Breda maakt CrossArts de komende jaren nieuwe tentoonstellingsvormen voor de stad en werkt met tal van partners aan een groeiend programma dat inspeelt op maatschappelijke thema’s.CrossArts opent het eerste themajaar Duurzaamheid & Creativiteit met de première van het nieuwste werk van de bekende textielkunstenaar Claudy Jongstra: Guernica de la Ecologia. Claudy Jongstra vertelt: “Ik hoop dat in de warme materialiteit van mijn Guernica een uitnodiging zit. Een uitnodiging om aandacht te hebben voor de dingen die ons omringen. Als het om aandacht voor de aarde gaat, telt elke vierkante meter.” De opening Claudy Jongstra - Guernica de la Ecologia vindt plaats op 11 mei om 19 uur in de Grote Kerk. Om 20.30 uur wordt het feest voortgezet bij Brack, waar werk wordt vertoond van SMACK en Eelco Brand. Meld je hier aan voor de opening.

Koen Hauser in VanGogh Galerie Zundert Fotograaf Koen Hauser heeft de gehele maand april gewerkt in het gastatelier van het VanGoghHuis in Zundert. De komende maanden werkt hij op basis hiervan verder aan zijn project en zal vanaf 8 september het eindresultaat tonen op het BredaPhoto Festival 2022. Nieuwsgierig? Je kunt in de Van GoghGalerie nu alvast de eerste resultaten van Hausers residentie bewonderen. Zijn tentoonstelling is te zien tot en met 27 mei, gratis toegankelijk en open van woensdag t/m zondag tussen 12 en 17 uur.  Photographer Koen Hauser has worked for a month in the guest studio of the Vincent VanGoghHuis in Zundert. He will continue to work and present the finished project in an exhibition at the BredaPhoto Festival from 8 September 2022. Curious already? Cinema of Dreams In aanloop naar BredaPhoto Festival 2022 Theatre of Dreams programmeren in samenwerking met Chassé Cinema Breda een reeks filmavonden waarin hoop en verandering centraal staan: Cinema of Dreams. Op dinsdagavond 24 mei om 19 uur vertonen we de derde film in de reeks: Kooyanisqatsi. Deze film van Godfrey Reggio uit 1982 is een uitbeelding van de invloed van het moderne menselijke leven op de wereld om ons heen, geschoten in elkaar opvolgende beeldsequenties, op de muziek van Philip Glass. Na afloop van de film volgt een nagesprek met Toon Meijaard die duiding bij de film zal geven. Boek hier je kaarten. In the run-up to BredaPhoto Festival 2022 Theatre of Dreams, Chassé Cinema and BredaPhoto are together organising a series of film nights that focus on hope and change: Cinema of Dreams. On Tuesday 24 May at 7 PM we will be screening the third film in this series: Kooyanisqatsi. A film by Godfrey Reggio from 1982 with music by Philip Glass.
